Pull the weeds

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering: (for he is faithful that promised;)” Hebrews 10:23
There I was standing in our garden looking around. Was I looking at all the beautiful flowers that the recent rains have watered? Yes, the flowers were in bloom and colorful, but there was something else growing right next to them. What were they? Weeds! Where did they come from? How did they get there? The weeds just didn’t appear out of thin air. They planted themselves and grew. If I would be honest, those weeds have been there for a long time. Oh, I saw them when they were small intending to pull them up, but I never did. The weeds continued to grow. I continued to walk past them everyday thinking to myself, “I must pull the weeds,” but I did not do it. The next thing I knew, the weeds were tall and their roots deep. Finally, I had enough. I put my gardening gloves on and set out to pulling the weeds. If I would have pulled them up when they were smaller, the job would have been easier. But my unwillingness to act, made pulling them now hard work. The same is true for the weeds of doubt, unbelief, worry, concern or anxiety that grow in our hearts. We know they are there, but refuse to pull them up. When we do this we are leaving the weeds unattended to choke our faith. I say, “NO MORE!” Don’t allow weeds to grow in the garden of your heart unchecked. It is allowing doubt, unbelief and the like to grow in our hearts that cause us to waver in our faith in God. God always has been and will continue to be faithful to us and we must be the same toward Him. Hold on to your profession of faith! Take inventory of the garden of your heart and quickly pull any weeds you find trying to grow there. You will be glad you did!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I take inventory of my heart before You right now. Any doubt, unbelief, worry, concern and anxiety I pull up from my heart and cast them aside. I trust You! My faith is in You and You alone! I hold on to my profession of faith and I thank You for being so faithful to me! In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
